On November 23, 2009, I had a total left knee replacement at Wilmington Hospital. As a result of the operation, my blood pressure went out of sight (high) and my sugar went real high. The Doctor at the hospital gave me medication to reduce my blood pressure and I had four shots of insulin to reduce my sugar count. For one of the few times in my life, I felt completely helpless. I had no control over my blood pressure and sugar and didn't know what to do.
After being home for a few days, there was no change in my condition. I was afraid I might have a stroke so I went to Go Care at Abby Medical, which operates seven days a week and is owned by my family doctor and his partner. I was assured that if I did as I was told, I would not have a stroke.
On Monday, November 30th, I went for blood work and on Wednesday I had an appointment with my doctor. As a result of this appointment, my doctor suggested that after I complete my physical therapy for my knee, I should call Fred Smalls at The Training Center and set-up an appointment and to inform Fred of what problems I was having and that he would recommend a meal plan and workout program. I have done this and as a result, my blood pressure is back to normal and my sugar count is on its way down. I have lost 12.5 lbs. the first two weeks and I look forward to my result the 3rd week.
As the outcome of the above referenced, my doctor has reduced my blood pressure medicine and we hope to avoid any meds for my sugar.
My meal plan Fred has me on consists of 3 meals a day with a liquid between meals at bedtime. I work out three times a week for about one hour a day. The eating requirements are hard but when something works, you have a desire to follow the program. My goal is to lose 30lbs to 40lbs and keep it off.
